AM Best has announced the appointment of James A. Gillard Jr. as the new president of A.M. Best Rating Services, Inc. (AMBRS), effective September 30, 2024. Gillard succeeds Matthew C. Mosher, who will retire as president and CEO of AMBRS at the end of the year.
“On behalf of AM Best, we are grateful to Matt for his dedicated leadership for nearly three decades,” stated Arthur Snyder III, chairman, president, and CEO of A.M. Best Company, Inc.
Gillard most recently held the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer at AMBRS. He joined AM Best in 2008 and has spent nearly the last ten years enhancing the company’s rating methodologies and tools. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College and holds a master’s degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University, as well as an MBA in finance from Temple University.
“As we transition into the next chapter, I have great confidence in our team’s strength as AM Best addresses the challenges posed by increased regulation of credit rating agencies while embracing the need for innovation in a changing insurance market. Under Jim’s leadership, I believe the organization is well-positioned for continued success,” Snyder added.
Mosher joined AM Best in 1995 as a senior financial analyst and actuary, quickly rising through the ranks to roles of greater responsibility. In 2000, he became an officer of the company as vice president of AMBRS’ specialty lines group in the property/casualty rating division. In 2019, he took on the role of president and CEO of AMBRS, overseeing the life/health, property/casualty, and international rating divisions.
“We extend our gratitude to Matt for his nearly three decades of dedicated leadership,” Snyder remarked. “Throughout his tenure, the insurance industry has experienced significant changes, and Matt has played a crucial role in guiding AM Best through these market shifts. We wish him a well-deserved retirement.”
During the transition, Mosher will serve as executive director of AMBRS for the remainder of the year. He will also remain chair and/or CEO of AM Best’s other affiliates until further notice, which include A.M. Best Europe Rating Services Ltd., A.M. Best Asia-Pacific Limited, A.M. Best Asia-Pacific (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., A.M. Best (EU) Rating Services B.V., and A.M. Best América Latina S.A. de C.V.
