Natcap Raises $10 Million to Integrate Nature into Business Decision-Making

Natcap Secures $10 Million to Expand Nature Integration in Business Decision-Making

Natcap, a pioneering nature tech firm, has successfully raised $10 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round. This funding is aimed at scaling Natcap’s innovative nature data platform, which supports organizations in understanding and managing their nature-related risks and opportunities. The investment comes at a pivotal time as global mandates like the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) drive increased demand for comprehensive nature intelligence.

The funding round saw participation from notable investors including André Hoffmann, Norinchukin Capital, Yeo Ventures, and Pelican Ag. Additionally, former Refinitiv CEO David Craig joined the round along with follow-on investments from Oxford Science Enterprises, funds advised by MW&L Capital Partners, and Alea Iacta Est. This diverse support underscores confidence in Natcap’s mission and its role in advancing nature reporting standards worldwide.

Founded in 2018 by Professor Baroness Kathy Willis at the University of Oxford, Natcap merges cutting-edge science, data, and technology to empower companies in measuring, reporting, and acting upon nature-related insights. The company’s platform has already supported over 20 organizations, including collaborations with Tesco’s Nature Programme and partnerships with MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings.

Natcap’s CEO, Sebastian Leape, expressed enthusiasm about the strong investor interest despite global fundraising challenges, highlighting the growing market need for accessible solutions to navigate nature risks and compliance complexities under regulatory frameworks like CSRD and TNFD. The company aims to expand its reach, enabling more businesses to integrate nature considerations into their strategic decisions and contribute to a sustainable future.

André Hoffmann, Vice-Chairman of Roche Holding AG and a senior advisor to TNFD, emphasized the significance of Natcap’s approach in bridging the gap in nature risk assessment for businesses. He underscored his commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship through his support for Natcap’s mission.

Nick Dixon-Clegg, Partner at Oxford Science Enterprises, praised Natcap’s progress and emphasized the critical role of innovative technologies in managing nature-related risks effectively. He reaffirmed Oxford Science Enterprises’ ongoing support for scaling transformative technologies from the Oxford ecosystem.
