Grant Thornton Names Michael Kempe as New Chief Information Officer
Grant Thornton, a leading U.S. provider of comprehensive audit, tax, and advisory services, has appointed Michael Kempe as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO). With over 20 years of expertise in digital transformation, global strategy, and operational excellence, Kempe is set to enhance the firm’s technology capabilities and drive strategic execution.
Seth Siegel, CEO of Grant Thornton Advisors LLC, highlighted the significance of the new appointment, stating, “At Grant Thornton, we are fully embracing the digital transformation essential for our profession’s future and our clients’ success. Mike’s extensive experience and proven track record will ensure that our technology infrastructure is secure, scalable, and aligned with our business objectives. He will be instrumental in delivering enhanced value and quality to our clients.”
Kempe’s appointment comes as Grant Thornton is on the verge of a strategic merger of its advisory and tax divisions with those of Grant Thornton Ireland. “This is a transformational global partnership between Grant Thornton in the U.S. and Ireland,” Siegel noted. “As we celebrate our 100th anniversary in the U.S., this is a perfect moment for Mike to join our team.”
Kempe brings a wealth of experience from his 12-year tenure at KPMG LLP, where he held various senior technology leadership roles, including regional and international CIO. During his time at KPMG, he led significant digital transformation initiatives, focusing on revenue growth and operational efficiency by leveraging cloud technologies and AI solutions.
Commenting on his new role, Kempe said, “Grant Thornton’s growth strategy and commitment to personalized client service are incredibly compelling. I look forward to advancing the firm’s technological infrastructure and enabling its talented professionals to continue delivering top-tier service.”
Based in New York City, Kempe holds a degree in business with a specialization in logistics and information technology from Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, Netherlands.
