Macquarie Asset Management and La Caisse Complete Maple Infrastructure Trust Transaction
Macquarie Asset Management has completed a transaction with global investment group La Caisse to support the continued growth of Maple Infrastructure Trust, an Infrastructure Investment Trust focused on toll road assets across India.
Macquarie Asset Management, through the Macquarie Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4, completed the acquisition of units from La Caisse in Maple on September 11, 2026. The transaction brings together two global infrastructure investors with complementary experience in investing in, developing and managing infrastructure platforms.
Following completion, Macquarie Asset Management and La Caisse jointly hold controlling stakes in Maple’s investment manager and project manager. The partnership is intended to provide Maple with access to infrastructure investment expertise, local market experience and additional capital to support future acquisitions and the expansion of its road platform.
The transaction also includes significant commitments from both investors for Maple’s future growth. Macquarie Asset Management has committed US$450 million through MAIF4, including US$150 million of additional equity earmarked for future acquisitions. La Caisse has separately committed US$150 million to support Maple’s expansion.
Strengthening Maple’s Infrastructure Platform
Established in 2021, Maple Infrastructure Trust owns and operates seven toll roads across six Indian states.
The assets are located across Eastern, Northern and Southern India and operate under long-term concession frameworks. Together, the road network covers approximately 3,328 lane kilometres.
The platform provides Macquarie Asset Management and La Caisse with exposure to India’s transportation infrastructure sector at a time when economic development, population growth and rising mobility requirements are increasing demand for efficient road networks.
Through the new partnership, both investment groups will work with Maple to build on the platform established since its formation.
The involvement of Macquarie Asset Management adds extensive infrastructure investment and active asset management capabilities, while La Caisse brings experience in developing and scaling infrastructure platforms across global markets.
The combination is intended to support Maple as it evaluates future growth opportunities while continuing to manage its existing portfolio of toll road assets.
Macquarie Expands Its Infrastructure Focus in India
India remains an important market for Macquarie Asset Management, with infrastructure representing a significant area of investment activity.
The Maple transaction reflects Macquarie’s continued interest in India’s long-term infrastructure requirements and the opportunities associated with the country’s expanding transportation network.
Verena Lim, Co-Head of Asia-Pacific Infrastructure for Macquarie Asset Management and Asia CEO for Macquarie Group, said India remains a key market for Macquarie and described Maple as reflecting the firm’s conviction in the country’s long-term infrastructure opportunity.
Lim also highlighted Macquarie’s experienced local team and longstanding presence in both the Indian market and infrastructure sector.
Through the partnership with La Caisse, Macquarie Asset Management expects to support Maple’s next phase of development by combining its infrastructure investment capabilities with operational expertise and an active asset management approach.
The approach is focused not only on investing capital but also on supporting the operational development of infrastructure assets over the longer term.
La Caisse Continues Its Commitment to Maple
For La Caisse, the transaction represents another stage in the development of its investment in India’s roads sector.
The organisation entered the Indian roads market five years ago with a single asset and a long-term view of the country’s infrastructure potential.
Since then, Maple has expanded into a broader road platform with seven toll road assets across multiple states.
Emmanuel Jaclot, Executive Vice-President and Head of Infrastructure and Sustainability at La Caisse, said the organisation’s initial investment was based on a conviction in India’s long-term potential.
Jaclot described Maple’s development from a single asset into a larger road platform as an important progression and said the partnership with Macquarie Asset Management represents confidence in both the platform that has been built and its future growth opportunities.
La Caisse’s continued US$150 million commitment also demonstrates its intention to remain involved in Maple’s development and support the platform’s expansion.
US$600 Million in Combined Growth Commitments
A significant feature of the transaction is the capital being committed to support Maple’s future expansion.
Macquarie Asset Management has committed US$450 million through MAIF4. Of this amount, US$150 million represents additional equity that has been specifically earmarked for future acquisitions by Maple.
La Caisse has also committed US$150 million for future growth.
Together, these commitments provide Maple with access to US$600 million of capital from its investment partners for continued development.
The additional funding could support the acquisition of new road assets and expansion of the platform as suitable opportunities emerge.
For an infrastructure platform operating in a large and developing transportation market, access to committed capital can provide greater flexibility when evaluating potential acquisitions and other growth opportunities.
The commitments also align the interests of Macquarie Asset Management and La Caisse around the continued development of Maple.
Seven Toll Roads Across Six States
Maple’s existing portfolio consists of seven toll roads spanning six Indian states.
The assets are distributed across Eastern, Northern and Southern India, providing the platform with exposure to different regional markets and transport corridors.
The combined network has approximately 3,328 lane kilometres.
The roads operate through long-term concession frameworks, which provide the basis for the ownership and operation of the assets over extended periods.
Long-term concession structures are an important feature of India’s road infrastructure market, allowing private-sector investors and operators to participate in the development, financing and operation of transportation assets.
Maple’s established portfolio provides the foundation on which the new partnership intends to build.
India’s Expanding Transportation Requirements
India has one of the world’s largest and most diverse transportation networks, with a road network extending to approximately six million kilometres.
Road infrastructure plays a central role in connecting people, businesses and communities across the country.
As India’s economy and population continue to develop, transportation requirements are also evolving.
The expansion of the country’s middle class is contributing to increased vehicle ownership and changing mobility patterns. Greater movement of people and goods is increasing demand for reliable and high-quality transportation infrastructure.
Toll roads form an important part of this infrastructure landscape, particularly where major transport corridors require sustained investment and efficient long-term management.
For infrastructure investors, these underlying trends provide a basis for evaluating opportunities in India’s road sector.
Rising Vehicle Ownership Supports Mobility Demand
Increasing vehicle ownership is another factor influencing India’s transportation infrastructure requirements.
As more households and businesses gain access to vehicles, demand for road connectivity and efficient transportation corridors can increase.
This creates requirements not only for additional road capacity but also for maintaining and improving existing infrastructure.
For investors and asset managers, effective operation and maintenance of road assets are therefore important components of long-term infrastructure management.
Macquarie Asset Management’s active asset management approach is intended to contribute to this area, combining investment expertise with operational capabilities.
The partnership with La Caisse provides Maple with access to the resources and experience of both organisations as it continues managing its existing portfolio and evaluates additional opportunities.
Infrastructure Investment and Active Asset Management
The Maple transaction highlights the increasingly important role of active asset management in infrastructure investing.
Infrastructure assets such as toll roads require long-term management and ongoing attention to operational performance, maintenance and customer requirements.
Investment decisions therefore extend beyond the initial acquisition of an asset.
For Maple, the partnership with Macquarie Asset Management is expected to bring additional operational expertise and infrastructure investment capabilities to the platform.
La Caisse’s experience in developing and scaling infrastructure businesses provides a complementary perspective.
Together, the two organisations can support Maple’s growth while maintaining a focus on the performance and development of its existing road network.
Potential for Further Platform Expansion
The additional equity commitments provide Maple with a platform for future expansion.
The US$150 million of additional equity specifically allocated by MAIF4 for future acquisitions gives the trust dedicated capital to consider new investment opportunities.
La Caisse’s additional US$150 million commitment further increases the resources available for growth.
As Maple evaluates potential assets, factors such as concession structures, road quality, traffic patterns, geographic location and long-term infrastructure requirements are likely to be relevant to investment decisions.
The existing portfolio across six states also provides an established operating base from which the platform can potentially expand.
A New Phase for Maple Infrastructure Trust
The transaction between Macquarie Asset Management and La Caisse represents a new phase in Maple Infrastructure Trust’s development.
Since its establishment in 2021, Maple has expanded from its initial platform into a portfolio of seven toll roads covering approximately 3,328 lane kilometres across six states.
The partnership brings together Macquarie Asset Management’s infrastructure investment and active asset management capabilities with La Caisse’s experience in developing and managing infrastructure platforms globally.
Both organisations are also committing capital to support Maple’s future growth, providing US$600 million in combined commitments.
For Macquarie Asset Management, the transaction reinforces its focus on India’s long-term infrastructure opportunity. For La Caisse, it builds on the platform developed since entering India’s roads sector five years ago.
India’s extensive road network, increasing vehicle ownership and evolving mobility requirements continue to create demand for transportation infrastructure.
The country’s approximately six-million-kilometre road network serves as a critical component of economic and social connectivity, while continued growth in mobility is creating further requirements for high-quality infrastructure.
Within this environment, Maple’s toll road portfolio provides an established platform for infrastructure investment and asset management.
With Macquarie Asset Management and La Caisse now jointly supporting the platform and committing additional capital for future growth, Maple is positioned to pursue the next stage of its development.
The partnership combines capital, infrastructure investment expertise, local market experience and global platform-management capabilities. As Maple evaluates future acquisitions and continues managing its existing portfolio, the collaboration provides a framework for further expansion within India’s evolving transportation infrastructure market.
