Horace Mann Educators Corporation (NYSE: HMN) announced that Ryan Greenier has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective October 1, 2024. Greenier will succeed Bret Conklin, who will remain with the company through 2025 to ensure a seamless transition before his retirement. Greenier will report to Marita Zuraitis, President and CEO, and join the company’s executive leadership team.
“We’ve been very deliberate with our executive succession planning to ensure stability as we continue executing our growth strategy,” said Zuraitis.
Zuraitis expressed her appreciation for Conklin’s contributions, stating, “Bret has had an exceptional career and played a key role in our leadership team. I am grateful for his guidance and leadership over the years, and for his commitment to leading our Finance transformation through 2025.”
On Greenier’s new role, Zuraitis added, “Ryan brings a wealth of financial expertise to the CFO position. Since joining Horace Mann, he has enhanced our investment portfolio, strengthened our balance sheet, and been instrumental in transformational transactions—all while maintaining strong relationships with investors and rating agencies.”
Additionally, Chief Operating Officer Stephen McAnena, who joined in May 2023, has taken responsibility for Horace Mann’s Worksite division, consolidating all business operations under his leadership. Together, McAnena and Zuraitis remain committed to advancing the company’s mission of delivering financial solutions for educators and those who serve their communities.
“We’re taking a thoughtful approach to succession planning to ensure the company’s continued growth and stability,” Zuraitis noted. “Our executive team remains focused on helping educators and community servants secure their financial futures.”
Before his appointment as Deputy CFO, Greenier held several leadership roles at Horace Mann, including Chief Investment Officer, Senior Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Corporate Finance, and Vice President of Investor Relations. A certified public accountant, Greenier previously held leadership roles at The Hartford and began his career at Deloitte and Touche. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Pace University and an MBA in finance from the University of Connecticut.
Conklin, who joined Horace Mann in 2002 and became CFO in 2017, had a distinguished career prior to Horace Mann, with leadership roles at Pekin Insurance, Kemper Insurance, and KPMG.
