Grant Thornton, one of the largest U.S. firms offering audit, assurance, tax, and advisory services, celebrates a new achievement in Chicago with Arla Lach, the market managing principal of the firm’s Chicagoland headquarters, being named a “Notable Leader in Accounting” by Crain’s Chicago Business. This annual recognition highlights senior leaders excelling in professional services while contributing to the Chicago community.
Lach, who has spent her entire career at Grant Thornton, became the first woman to lead the firm’s headquarters on June 1. She oversees growth in the Chicagoland area and manages nearly 1,000 audit, tax, and advisory professionals, ensuring clients across the nation receive high-quality, personalized service.
With nearly 25 years of progressive leadership experience at Grant Thornton, Lach previously served as the Midwest Audit leader and chief of staff to the CEO. During this time, she gained deep expertise in industries like manufacturing and transportation and honed her skills in executing large-scale growth strategies.
David Platt, managing principal of Grant Thornton’s Central region, praised Lach’s leadership, emphasizing her ability to foster strong relationships with colleagues and clients. “I’ve worked with Arla for almost 13 years, and her leadership in Chicago has already made a substantial impact. She’s authentic, deeply cares about her team and clients, and embodies the qualities of a notable leader,” Platt said.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lach is active in the community, serving on the board and executive committees of several organizations, including Gateway Foundation, World Business Chicago, and the International Women’s Forum Chicago chapter. She also previously served on the board of Step Up Women’s Network and as treasurer for Theatre Building Chicago.
Lach is equally committed to giving back to her profession. As a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Illinois CPA Society, she regularly speaks on industry trends and mentors aspiring professionals. She also engages with students at her alma mater, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she sits on the accounting advisory board at the Gies College of Business.
“I’m incredibly honored by this recognition from Crain’s,” Lach said. “I owe this to my amazing team, whose talents drive our success every day. As Grant Thornton celebrates 100 years, I’m excited for the future and the opportunities ahead for our firm and clients.”
