As a key player in advancing development, Bank Mandiri remains dedicated to accelerating financial inclusion among the younger generation. By introducing various innovative solutions and educational initiatives, the bank aims to broaden access to secure and convenient banking services, particularly for students.
Since the start of 2024, over 93,000 students, including 32,000 social assistance recipients across Indonesia, have benefited from financial education and outreach programs led by Bank Mandiri. These efforts have spanned public schools, religious institutions, and special needs schools (SLB). During the celebration of Indonesian Savings Day (HIM) on August 20, 2024, Bank Mandiri reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing financial literacy among students by educating more than 24,000 students nationwide.
Evi Dempowati, Senior Vice President of Retail Deposit Product and Solution at Bank Mandiri, highlighted that the program is not only designed to instill a savings culture from an early age but also to introduce students to sound financial management principles. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with Bank Mandiri’s support for the One Account One Student (KEJAR) Program, which is spearheaded by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
“Through the KEJAR Program, we aim to promote savings as a healthy and beneficial habit for the future of the younger generation. We believe that by introducing the concepts of saving and financial management early on, we can cultivate a more financially inclusive and prudent generation,” Evi stated in an official release on Tuesday (20/8).
The KEJAR Program is part of the implementation of Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 26 of 2019, which designates Indonesian Savings Day. The program’s goal is to foster a culture of saving from a young age, with the financial inclusion rate expected to reach 87% by 2024, in line with regulatory targets.
Thanks to the series of initiatives launched by Bank Mandiri in 2024, by July 2024, the number of Mandiri Student Savings (SimPel) accounts had surpassed 2.4 million, with an increase of more than 85,000 accounts since December 2023. “This growth of over 85,000 accounts, compared to December 2023, was observed across all of Bank Mandiri’s operational regions, particularly in Sulawesi, Maluku, and East Java,” Evi added.
To mark Indonesian Savings Day 2024, Bank Mandiri also rolled out several initiatives, including a large-scale campaign to open student accounts, support for the KEJAR Program, and the Bank Goes to School activities, which targeted public schools, religious-based institutions, and special needs schools (SLB). These efforts were met with enthusiastic responses from students and educators alike, resulting in the successful opening of more than 14,000 Mandiri Student Savings (SimPel) accounts and 25,000 other children’s savings accounts during the education and outreach period from July to August 8, 2024.
Mandiri SimPel Savings is a specialized product tailored for Indonesian students, launched nationally to promote education and financial inclusion, and to encourage a savings habit from an early age. By opening a Mandiri SimPel Savings account, students can enjoy benefits such as low initial deposits, no monthly administration fees, and easy access to transactions through Mandiri ATMs.
“With Mandiri Tabungan SimPel, we hope more students will experience the benefits of saving and be better equipped to face future financial challenges,” Evi concluded.
