ANZ has introduced a new addition to its long-running financial education initiative, MoneyMinded, aimed at boosting digital confidence among vulnerable communities. This expansion comes as the program celebrates a major milestone—supporting more than one million people since it launched in 2002.
The newly developed Digital Confidence module is the first of its kind in the program, designed to help participants build essential skills for using digital devices and confidently engaging in online and mobile banking. This latest update follows the introduction of a Scams Awareness module in 2024, continuing ANZ’s broader mission to enhance the financial wellbeing of Australians.
Since its inception, MoneyMinded has provided a flexible and accessible framework for adults to strengthen their money management skills. Today, more than 5,000 community professionals are accredited as MoneyMinded coaches, helping people across Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia-Pacific region.According to ANZ’s Head of Social Impact and Community Partnerships, Janet Liu, the Digital Confidence module is particularly relevant for older individuals and others with lower levels of digital engagement.
We know digital banking can feel overwhelming, especially for some of our more vulnerable customers. This new module is about helping people use digital tools safely and effectively, unlocking more choices for how and when they bank,” Ms. Liu said.
MoneyMinded has always aimed to empower people to make informed financial decisions, and this module is a natural extension of that purpose.”
The Digital Confidence module covers the basics of using digital devices, staying safe online, and accessing banking services via the internet and mobile apps. It features 15 new learning topics, six prompt cards, two animated videos, and a suite of supporting handouts to enhance participant learning.
Community organization The Smith Family will be training existing MoneyMinded coaches on how to deliver the new module to clients over the coming months.
Doug Taylor, CEO of The Smith Family, welcomed the development:
We’re excited to see ANZ working alongside community partners to improve digital literacy. As technology continues to evolve, those already facing financial pressures risk being left behind. The Digital Confidence module offers meaningful support where it’s needed most.”
