Global Payments Unveils Genius™: A Unified Point-of-Sale Platform to Revolutionize Commerce Enablement

In a strategic move set to redefine the landscape of point-of-sale (POS) systems, Global Payments Inc. (NYSE: GPN), a global leader in payment technology and software solutions, has officially launched Genius™, an advanced POS command center designed to consolidate, enhance, and future-proof business operations for merchants of all sizes. The debut of Genius represents a major milestone for Global Payments as the company continues its mission to provide seamless commerce enablement solutions across industries and geographies.

With commerce increasingly blending physical, digital, and mobile experiences, merchants are seeking robust, integrated platforms that streamline operations, enhance customer engagement, and scale effortlessly. Recognizing this, Global Payments has introduced Genius as a single, versatile platform that unifies the best features of its previous POS offerings into one highly intuitive and configurable system. According to Global Payments’ leadership, this new platform is not merely a product enhancement—it’s a transformative step toward simplifying business for merchants while strengthening the company’s brand recognition and global footprint.

Reimagining the POS Experience for a New Era

“Going to market with a single, enhanced POS platform enables customers to enjoy the full range of features and commerce enablement solutions that we offer,” stated Cameron Bready, President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Payments. “With these changes, we are delivering a seamless experience for our customers while simplifying our business and establishing a stronger and more recognizable brand in the market.”

The Genius platform serves as an all-in-one command center for merchants—providing a consistent, scalable, and feature-rich environment to manage sales, operations, and customer engagement. Built to address the growing complexities of modern commerce, the platform offers deep customization, localization, and integration capabilities, making it suitable for a diverse range of industries and business models. Whether a business operates in retail, hospitality, education, or regulated sectors, Genius provides the adaptability needed to meet sector-specific demands while ensuring operational continuity and compliance.

Global Scalability and Vertical Focus

Genius is not just a U.S.-centric offering. The platform has been engineered with global scalability in mind, enabling Global Payments to rapidly deploy it across multiple international markets. It accommodates diverse regulatory environments, currency systems, and cultural business practices—an essential feature as the company seeks to broaden its footprint in North America, Europe, and beyond.

Importantly, the system has been tailored to meet the needs of specialized verticals. For example, in age-restricted retail environments such as alcohol and tobacco, Genius includes tools for compliance and verification. In higher education, the platform offers campus-wide payment integration. For service businesses, it enables appointment scheduling, recurring billing, and loyalty program management—all in one seamless package.

Bob Cortopassi, President and Chief Operating Officer at Global Payments, emphasized the platform’s potential to empower customers across these diverse sectors. “Genius reinforces Global Payments’ position as a leading technology partner for businesses seeking versatile software and payment solutions in today’s rapidly-evolving marketplace,” he explained. “This new POS platform accelerates the value we provide our customers by establishing a single, scalable, and feature-rich continuum of POS technology that we will continue to enhance in the months and years ahead.”

Launching with a Focus on Restaurants and Retail

The company is rolling out Genius in stages, with initial focus on two key verticals—restaurants and retail.

Genius for Restaurants is purpose-built for eateries of all types, from quick-service counters to fine dining establishments. Its capabilities span table management, waitlist and reservation systems, real-time reporting, inventory control, and tableside payment processing. Additionally, it includes marketing features such as customer loyalty programs, gift card integration, and automated promotions. Hardware for this restaurant-centric version has been designed to deliver superior performance, supporting both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.

This tailored solution is set to debut at the National Restaurant Association (NRA) Show in Chicago from May 17–20, 2025. Initially available in the United States and Canada, it aims to simplify restaurant management and elevate the customer experience through robust, real-time capabilities.

Genius for Retail, on the other hand, is geared toward small to mid-sized merchants who demand simplicity, reliability, and functionality. This version offers plug-and-play capabilities right out of the box, reducing time-to-deployment for new merchants. From inventory tracking and order management to marketing, invoicing, and loyalty programs, Genius for Retail empowers retailers with comprehensive tools to deliver exceptional customer experiences and streamline backend operations.

Retail rollout is expected in June 2025 across the United States, with phased expansion into Canada, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic in the following months. This phased introduction is part of Global Payments’ strategy to fine-tune regional deployments while ensuring local market readiness and regulatory alignment.

Enterprise Version to Follow

Following the initial launch, Global Payments plans to introduce Genius for Enterprise, a version tailored for high-volume, high-complexity environments such as stadiums, large quick-service restaurant (QSR) chains, entertainment venues, and multi-location operations. With advanced features like kitchen workflow orchestration, omnichannel reporting, multi-location inventory, and enterprise-grade data analytics, Genius for Enterprise is expected to address the unique challenges of businesses that operate on a large scale and demand high levels of performance, uptime, and coordination.

This enterprise version will bring all the scalability and configurability of the Genius platform to large, complex business ecosystems, enabling central control with local flexibility—ideal for businesses managing hundreds of locations or dealing with large volumes of transactions across multiple regions.

Marketing and Brand Consolidation

The Genius platform will be marketed under the unified Global Payments brand, further streamlining the company’s presence in the market and eliminating the fragmentation that often comes with managing multiple POS sub-brands. This brand consolidation aligns with Global Payments’ broader objective to present a cohesive image to merchants, partners, and investors, reinforcing its identity as a world-class provider of commerce enablement technology.

Marketing efforts will include direct outreach, trade show appearances, and digital campaigns. The company has already launched a dedicated section on its website at globalpayments.com/genius, where prospective customers can explore platform features, request demos, and watch explainer videos. Visitors to the National Restaurant Association Show can interact with the platform live at booth #3801 and speak with Global Payments representatives to understand how Genius can be tailored to their specific needs.

A Future-Focused Approach

In unveiling Genius, Global Payments is not merely responding to current market demand—it is anticipating the future of commerce. As omnichannel experiences become the norm and consumers demand more seamless, personalized interactions, businesses must rely on sophisticated but user-friendly technology to stay ahead.

By merging software, hardware, payment processing, analytics, and customer engagement into a single configurable ecosystem, Genius is designed to help businesses of all sizes not only keep pace with change but lead with confidence.

With plans to expand features, geographies, and integrations throughout 2025 and beyond, Global Payments is positioning Genius as the cornerstone of its long-term vision—a unified commerce infrastructure capable of evolving alongside the businesses it serves.
