CaixaBank Mobilises 20,000 Volunteers Yearly to Support 430,000 Vulnerable People
In 2025, CaixaBank Volunteering proudly commemorates two decades of dedication, social commitment, and transformative impact on communities across Spain. To celebrate this significant milestone, the organization recently held a grand event in Barcelona, paying tribute to the unwavering efforts of its volunteers and acknowledging the invaluable contributions of numerous social organizations that partner with CaixaBank in its mission.
Since its inception, CaixaBank Volunteering has grown to become one of the most impactful volunteer initiatives in Spain. What began as a small effort to mobilize employees toward social causes has expanded into a large-scale, structured programme involving thousands of people. Today, it brings together more than 20,000 volunteers annually, including both active and former employees of the CaixaBank Group, members of the “la Caixa” Foundation, as well as friends, family, clients, and even individuals unaffiliated with the bank but passionate about solidarity work.
Record Participation and Social Impact in 2024
The year 2024 was particularly remarkable for CaixaBank Volunteering, not only because of its anniversary preparations but also due to record-breaking participation and outreach. Throughout the year, an impressive 20,200 volunteers dedicated their time and effort to nearly 30,000 solidarity activities organized by CaixaBank. These activities directly benefited over 433,000 vulnerable individuals from various backgrounds, spanning children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those facing economic hardship.
The scale of these activities extended across all regions of Spain, thanks to the strategic collaboration with more than 2,500 local social organizations. The collective strength of CaixaBank’s volunteers and its network of social partners created a ripple effect, delivering meaningful assistance to communities in need.
Compared to 2023, the growth figures for 2024 are remarkable. The volunteer base increased by a notable 17% from the previous year’s 17,240 participants. Furthermore, the number of solidarity actions saw a 19% rise, with a 16% increase in the number of beneficiaries reached. Notably, 12% more social organizations collaborated with CaixaBank in 2024 than the previous year, reflecting the ever-growing trust and recognition the programme enjoys nationwide.
CaixaBank Volunteering Gathering: A Moment of Gratitude and Reflection
To recognize the dedication of its volunteers and highlight the social progress achieved, CaixaBank hosted the CaixaBank Volunteering Gathering at CosmoCaixa, Barcelona’s renowned science museum. This celebratory event brought together almost 200 volunteers representing all regions of Spain, along with key figures from the institution.
Among the distinguished attendees were Tomás Muniesa, Chairman of CaixaBank; Jaume Masana, CaixaBank’s Business Director; Josep Parareda, Director of Social Action and Chairman of CaixaBank Volunteering; and Rafael Chueca, Deputy General Director of Culture and Territory at the “la Caixa” Foundation. Their presence underscored the importance CaixaBank places on social responsibility and its volunteer programme as a core pillar of its corporate ethos.
In their speeches, the leadership highlighted how the sustained efforts of volunteers, combined with the support of social organizations, have transformed countless lives over the past 20 years. They also emphasized the critical role that CaixaBank Volunteering plays in fostering inclusion, promoting education, supporting entrepreneurship, and responding to emergencies.
Social Month: Extending Solidarity Beyond the Workplace
One of CaixaBank Volunteering’s flagship initiatives is Social Month, which will be celebrated for the third consecutive year in May 2025. Building upon the legacy of the previous ‘Social Week’, the concept of Social Month aims to extend the opportunity for individuals to experience firsthand the impact of volunteering and social responsibility over a longer period.
In 2024, Social Month proved to be a resounding success. More than 16,500 individuals participated in the month-long event, taking part in 2,750 organized activities throughout Spain. The initiative witnessed a 21% increase in participation compared to previous editions, demonstrating the growing interest of the public in solidarity efforts. These activities touched the lives of over 117,000 people facing vulnerable situations, reflecting CaixaBank’s ability to engage a broad base of participants and extend its outreach.
The expansion of Social Month is not merely a symbolic gesture but a reflection of CaixaBank’s commitment to making solidarity accessible and sustainable, ensuring more people have the chance to give back to their communities.
Localized Actions and Strategic Programmes: A Dual Focus Approach

CaixaBank Volunteering’s success can be attributed to its dual focus approach, balancing local initiatives with strategic programmes tailored to specific community needs. This model ensures that support reaches both urban centers and rural areas, recognizing the diversity of challenges faced by different populations.
In 2024, over 14,800 local initiatives were implemented in municipalities throughout Spain. From major metropolitan hubs to small towns and villages, the focus remained on addressing the immediate and long-term needs of residents. Additionally, 14,100 activities were dedicated to the bank’s strategic programmes, which focus on areas such as personal support, employment inclusion, and education.
One of the key pillars of these strategic programmes is personal and work support. Last year, 5,835 initiatives were specifically designed to assist elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and those suffering from health issues. Recognizing the barriers to employment faced by many vulnerable groups, CaixaBank also championed various activities to promote labour market inclusion and support entrepreneurial ventures.
Another fundamental area of focus is education, viewed as a pathway to social mobility and empowerment. In 2024, volunteers carried out 7,400 educational activities, ranging from reading support for children to financial literacy workshops. These workshops catered to a variety of participants, including seniors, young people, and individuals with intellectual disabilities, equipping them with essential life skills and knowledge.
Emergency Response: Swift Action in Times of Crisis
Beyond its planned programmes, CaixaBank Volunteering has proven time and again its ability to respond effectively to unforeseen crises and emergencies. In 2024 alone, 595 specific actions were organized to support individuals impacted by emergency situations, positively affecting the lives of 9,200 people.
One of the most pressing challenges of the year was the devastating DANA flood that struck in late October, wreaking havoc across the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, and Andalusia. The flood left a trail of destruction, severely impacting homes, livelihoods, and infrastructure in these regions.
In the wake of this disaster, CaixaBank Volunteering quickly mobilized, organizing 124 focused activities. These efforts included distributing essential supplies, providing hot meals, assisting with cleanup efforts, and offering direct support to affected families. For instance, volunteers in the Valencian Community delivered food to elderly residents in Alfafar and joined in the cleanup of Algemesí’s streets.
The commitment of 390 volunteers from various regions made a tangible difference, benefiting over 5,700 individuals who were affected by the flood. In parallel, CaixaBank launched a fundraising initiative, raising over €25 million in public donations to aid reconstruction efforts and provide much-needed relief to the victims.
Building on 20 Years of Impact
As CaixaBank Volunteering steps into its 20th year, the institution reflects on the extraordinary journey it has undertaken. What began as a small-scale volunteer initiative has blossomed into a nationwide movement, fostering community solidarity, inclusion, and resilience. The remarkable achievements of 2024 not only underscore the programme’s continued growth but also demonstrate the enduring power of collective action.
With the sustained support of its employees, partners, clients, and local social organizations, CaixaBank Volunteering is poised to continue making a meaningful difference in the years to come—championing a more inclusive, supportive, and empathetic society for all.
